What One Diocese Can Do...

Diocesan Training Events

Many dioceses are holding diocesan-wide training events to equip people for global reconciliation mission leadership. Below are details and resources from various diocesan events. If your diocese has done an MDG training and it's not listed here -- let us know and send us whatever materials you have and we'll get it up!

Diocese of Missouri -Missouri combined training for the MDGs with training for involvement in their companion diocese relationship with Lui, Sudan. Here is a flier for the day and a detailed schedule. The training packet included the What One Can Do handouts. The MDG presentation was this one -- which involves bringing 10 people to the front to do the "if the world were a village of 10 people exercise." For more information contact the Rev. Mike Kinman.

Diocese of Minnesota - Read about Minnesota's "three-legged stool of the MDGs" training conference. Here is the closing liturgy they used. For more information contact the Rev. Devon Anderson

Diocese of North Carolina -- "Building an MDG Ministry in Your Congregation" is a three-Saturday series. Click here for an overview. For more information, contact Lallie Lloyd

Companion Dioceses and the MDGs

Your diocese's companion diocese relationship is an excellent way to put a human face on the MDGs and can provide a wonderful opportunity to build relationships of global reconciliation. Find out more about the Companion Diocese Network here. To see if your diocese has an existing relationship, download a list of current diocesan companion relationships here. Below are some ideas and resources from companion relationships across the church:

Diocese of Alabama/Diocese of Haiti - Alabama's companion diocese webpage has information about their construction and medical missions, as well as a downloadable 9-minute video about the relationship.

"This is my child, my beloved" stickers - Stickers used at the Diocese of Missouri convention to promote their companion relationship with Lui, Sudan.

Diocesan MDG Pages

More and more dioceses are devoting pages on their website -- or entire websites -- to resource their work with the Millennium Development Goals. If your diocese doesn't have one ... use these as models! If your diocese does have a MDG page or site and it's not listed here -- let us know and we'll get it up!

Diocese of Maryland - Global Mission and the MDGs ... a great mix of information and practical application.

Diocesan MDG Giving

More than 70 dioceses give at least 0.7% of their budget toward ministries supporting the MDGs. Below are some examples of how dioceses disburse those funds.

Grants to MDG ministries
