E4GR secondary and university scholarships in Keny
by The Rev. Mike Kinman
The Rev. Mike Kinman, Executive Director of EGR, is looking for resources or ideas to assist young people with financial aid to go to secondary school and universtiy in Kenya or Uganda.
Hello everyone,
I'm sitting here at our diocesan convention with the Rev. Stephen Dokolo, a priest from Lui, Sudan, who is continuing his theological education in St. Louis. He just asked me if I knew any sources of scholarship assistance for young people to go to secondary school and university in Kenya or Uganda (this is NOT for people coming to the U.S. but going to school there). He has some people in his church communities (both in Lui and in Kampala, Uganda) who are desparate to be able to continue their education but just don't have the resources.
I said I wasn't aware of someone ... but that I'd put it out to the wisdom of the wider church. I know from talking with folks in Rwanda who run a wonderful nonprofit called Orphans of Rwanda (www.orphansofrwanda.org/), which gives secondary and university assistance to genocide orphans, that there is such a huge emphasis on universal primary education (MDG #2) and very little attention is paid after that. The result is that even the best and brightest of these countries, the future leaders,. are not able to get the education they need to lead their people to a better life.
Anyway ... can anybody help us out? Let us know if you know any resources or leads!
Christ's peace,
Mike+
