U2charist - Mexico City

by Juan Jose Colin Arciniega

The U2charist was a success again, as our last one, but we did not get the same amount of interest of the press, because it was the second one. The first one, if i believe correctly, was the first one in spanish and the first one in Latin America. The Rev. Vincent Schwahn is very happy with the results.

The U2charist was a success again, as our last one, but we did not get the same amount of interest of the press, because it was the second one. The first one, if i believe correctly, was the first one in spanish and the first one in Latin America. The Rev. Vincent Schwahn is very happy with the results.

For this U2Charist we changed the visual design. This one emulated the art of the "All that you can't leave behind" album art, and our first U2charist emulated the "How to dismantle an atomic bomb" album art.

The program of our first U2charist were as follows:

  • Prelude - When i look at the world
  • Opening Hymn - Pride (in the name of love) from "Vertigo tour live in Chicago"
  • Song of Praise - Elevation from "Elevation Tour live in Boston"
  • For readings - 40 from "Vertigo tour live in Chicago", Jesus Christ by Bono
  • Sermon Response - One (Buffallo Version)
  • The Peace - Peace on Earth
  • Offertory - Sunday Bloody Sunday from "Vertigo tour live in Chicago"
  • Communion Hymns - Yahweh, Miracle Drug from "Vertigo tour live in Chicago"
  • Closing hymn - Beautiful Day
  • Postlude - Walk On from "America Tribute to Heroes"
  • In Memorium - Miss Sarajevo (honoring Pavarotti)

For our second U2Charist, we tried to keep what worked best and try something new. Here's our program for the second one:

  • Prelude - Windows in the Sky and the universal human rights declaration from "Vertigo tour live in Chicago"
  • Opening Hymn - Where the Streets Have No Name from "Elevation Tour live in Boston"
  • Song of Praise - Elevation from "Elevation Tour live in Boston"
  • For readings - The Wanderer from the Tribute to Johnny Cash and Pride (in the name of love) from "PopMartTour live in Mexico City"
  • Sermon Response - One (Berlin Version)
  • The Peace - Sometimes you can't make it on your own (accoustic version from the Bonus DVD in HTDAAB album)
  • Offertory - Sunday Bloody Sunday from "Elevation Tour live in Boston"
  • Communion Hymns - I still haven't found what i'm looking for from "U2 Rattle and Hum Movie", Stuck in a moment you can't get out of
  • Closing hymn - Beautiful Day
  • Postlude - MLK from "U2 Rattle and Hum Movie" and With or Without You from "Elevation Tour live in Boston"

Well...that's it. Now i'll send pics and promos.

    Comments:

Our Liturgy was a real joy and a great turnout. Thanks to Juan Jose for his visual afffects and long hours of work. We would be happy to work with any Hispanic Parish that would like to do the same in their community. The Music and Lyrics are in English but the Eucharist and Lessons is in Spanish. Pax Fr. Vincent+ Christ Church Mexico City.
